CALGARY - The Royal College welcomes recent efforts by the federal Minister of Health, Rona Ambrose, to engage and collaborate with Canada’s national health organizations and leaders.

With growing illness complexity, budget limitations and an aging population challenging Canada’s health system, national leadership is vital. The Royal College’s senior leaders met with Minister Ambrose today at the Canadian Medical Association’s General Council meeting to discuss specialist employment issues, indigenous health, and the importance of innovation to the long-term sustainability of our health care system.

TORONTO – The Canadian Association of Community Health Centres (CACHC) joins Community Health Centres, public health professionals and public health agencies across Canada in calling on the federal government to retract misguided legislation recently tabled in Parliament. Bill C-65: the Respect for Communities Act mounts barriers to establishment and maintenance of Supervised Injection Services (SIS) for people who use drugs, placing ideology above the significant research and evidence demonstrating the effectiveness and public health benefits of these services.

(Ottawa, ON) - “Live, work and play… smoke free” is the theme for this week’s National Non-Smoking Week (NNSW) 2013 and a mantra supported by Canada’s dental hygienists. Tobacco remains the leading preventable cause of disease and death in Canada, killing 37,000 Canadians annually. Direct health care costs from tobacco exceed $4.4 billion per year and total economic costs are greater than $17 billion per year.
